ANTHONY BANKS & JENNA KAËS

SEPTEMBER 3 - 7, 2025

Galerie Sardine is thrilled to participate in DUET Art Fair. We will present a suite of paintings by London-based artist Anthony Banks and sculptures by Paris-based artist Jenna Kaës.

In this conversation between Banks and Kaës, temporal rhythms and the archaeology of memory become the shared language that bridges their work. In Duet Galerie Sardine presents an artistic conversation where time itself emerges as both subject and medium—measured not in moments, but in the patient accumulation of marks, the slow revelation of surface, and the delicate negotiations between what endures and what transforms.

Anthony Banks creates works deeply attuned to the interplay of gesture, color, and ground. He composes a visual dialogue where opposing painting strategies achieve their power through dissonance, deliberately positioning his work on "contested borderlines" where temporal tension accumulates through years of patient layering. His treatment of surface mirrors the slow erosion and renewal of the landscapes he depicts—paintings that breathe with the unhurried rhythm of geological time while kinetic zig-zags of movement animate the surface. Here, representation wrestles with abstraction in constant interplay.

Jenna Kaës Kaës draws inspiration from Soul Houses—miniature offering trays and libation basins that marked the tombs of common people during Egypt's Middle Kingdom. These humble structures represent a profound act of remembrance—simple vessels designed to shelter and sustain the invisible part that detaches and endures.

Both artists bring forth palimpsests of human experience—Banks through weathered painted surfaces where past and present inscribe themselves in layers, Kaës through ancient vessels reimagined for contemporary grief and remembrance.
